Temperament Tests

"What is a temperament test?"

Evaluating your dog through an in-depth analysis of their drives, personality, energy level, living dynamics, and history. It also allows us to get to know the clients better than over the phone or email. At the end of the test, a price estimate and recommended lesson amount will be provided based on what it'd take to reach your goals.

"Why in-home?"

It's the least stressful place for the dog, in most cases. Giving the dog the opportunity to start associating training positively is our #1 goal, so being in the most comfortable location is the best way to achieve that. Although problem behaviors must eventually be seen and addressed, it's not ideal to exasperate them upon first greeting. Accommodations to meet in a public space can be made in the event the home is not an ideal environment or the owner is not comfortable meeting there.

"What does the test look like?"

Although most of the test is talking with the owner and creating a bond between the dog and trainer, the dog's personality will be assessed as well. This involves making a hierarchy of the dog's motivations (ex. does the dog prefer treats over toys or toys over people?) Recognizing a dog's value system is crucial to using their motivations to push them in a positive direction. Also, seeing their environment and behavior in person can change the trainer's approach, affecting the time and price required to reach desired goals.
